Publisher Profile: Akupara Games

For this week’s Publisher Profile, Akupara Games‘ David Logan took some time to talk about the work they do in getting players, press, and influencers to check out their clients’ work.

Who are you?

David Logan, Akupara Games: I’m David Logan, CEO of Akupara Games.

Can you tell us a bit about your company?

We’re based out of Los Angeles, but we have team members all around the world working remotely!

We support indies by assisting with development, porting, marketing, and publishing. When we publish a game, we want to give the same passion the indie developers give their own games, and create campaigns that bring innovation and “out of the box” ideas.

What work do you do to help developers reach an audience? How do you make developers’ lives a little easier?

Distribution – We maintain strong relationships with our partners, such as account managers from Nintendo and Valve, or hardware manufacturers such as NVIDIA and Razer. We look for ways to leverage the developer’s title to the fullest, getting physical editions, soundtracks, and swag made. We enter the game into sales and handle full financials, making it easy for …read more

8 Wii U Games We Want to See on Nintendo Switch

With the release of Super Mario Maker 2 on the Nintendo Switch this week, more of the Wii U’s library finds some sort of representation on the Switch, which is great considering how little time people had to really experience some of its best titles. Whether via sequels or ports, Nintendo has slowly been bringing the best of the Wii U to its current console.

But even with Splatoon and Mario Maker sequels, Captain Toad and New Super Mario Bros. U ports and more, there are still treasured gems of the Wii U trapped on Nintendo’s last-gen system. Here are seven WiiU ports Nintendo should make (or franchises to at least consider sequels for), instead of just leaving all this unspent money in my wallet.

‘Harry Potter: Wizards Unite’ Fortress Guide – Everything You Need to Beat Wizarding Challenges

It wouldn’t be a Niantic augmented reality game without some big buildings on the map that are essential to the ongoing experience. Where Pokemon GO has Gyms, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite (Free) has Fortresses, the biggest and hardest to miss structures around — and yes, sometimes they’re even in the exact same physical locations as Pokemon GO Gyms.

That’s pretty much where the similarities end, because where Gyms are PvP hubs, Wizards Unite Fortresses are instead the locations where players can come together and work toward common goals. That’s because each Fortress allows access to Wizarding Challenges, where your spellcasting prowess is put to the test in much more direct ways than when you are trying to defeat most Confoundables.

The game actually has a pretty good explanation of Fortresses and Wizarding Challenges right in the app, but that doesn’t mean we can’t expand upon it and go into even more detail for people who are just starting their journeys into Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, as well as those who have been in from the beginning and want to step up to more difficult tests. Our Fortress guide is intended to have a little bit for everyone, so let’s get started.

‘BTS World’ Guide – How to Get More Gems, Wings and More

Are you a member of the BTS ARMY? If so, there’s a good chance you already know all about BTS World (Free), the mobile game from Netmarble that makes you, yes, you, the manager of the insanely popular seven-member Korean group. Played out as an ongoing narrative, the game sends you back in time to the far-flung past of 2012, when the group members first signed to Big Hit Entertainment, and gives you the task of not messing things up so that they come together to form BTS.

While much of BTS World involves simply enjoying the story, which plays out as written and voiced dialogue, as well as in-game text messages, phone calls, and media posts, there are indeed some simple but actual game mechanics in the mix as well, as you need to collect cards of all seven members and pick the right ones to pass Mission Stages based on four stats: Empathy, Passion, Stamina and Wisdom. In-between challenges, you can also assign the members to tasks at the Agency, which can level up those stats for the entire Group, giving you a bonus no matter which cards you decide to play in Mission Stages.

The Third Annual Dubious E3 Awards

As longtime readers are aware, I’ve adapted an ingenious defense mechanism to dealing with G.I.’s horrible lists and rankings – instead of lending consideration to my fellow co-workers’ obviously wrong opinions, I simply disavow the lists completely and come up with my own competing awards instead.

This method has proven shockingly popular with readers I assume, so even though I can’t say I have any real qualms with our Best of E3 Awards this year, I figured I’d continue the tradition anyway with the Third Annual Dubious E3 Awards. Read on to find out which games, companies, and other random crap won a highly coveted Duby this year!

Full Keanu Award: Cyberpunk 2077

Did you see when Keanu Reeves took the stage during Microsoft’s press conference to introduce Cyberpunk 2077? Of course you did! That’s all anyone was talking about! Who would have thought a company could get a celebrity to appear on a stage and read something from a teleprompter? I wonder how they did it! What’s that you say? Money? Oh, that explains it.

Seriously though, considering Keanu Reeves has joined Jeff Goldblum in the can-do-no-wrong-weirdo-celeb status, it was a fun surprise, …read more

10 Emotional Sidequests In Zelda Games

The Zelda franchise is full of fun and exciting adventures for you and Link to embark on. From a cartoonish crusade over the high seas to a journey between realms to save the land, Link’s escapades are always full of memorable characters and unforgettable moments. However, after the reveal of a Breath of the Wild sequel, we couldn’t help but notice how it seemed to embrace a bleak, more somber tone. Zelda series director Eiji Aonuma has gone on record saying the game will be darker, and upon further inspection, this isn’t wholly out of the ordinary for a Zelda game. Hidden between the lines in even some of the franchise’s most upbeat and exciting adventures lie tragic, emotional stories. Here are 10 sidequests in which the Zelda franchise got surprisingly grim.

‘Mighty Switch Force! Collection’ Switches on Switch on July 25th

WayForward’s Mighty Switch Force! series got its start on Nintendo hardware, but soon ended up on a variety of platforms. The core idea behind most of the games involves switching background and foreground objects to make a path forward. They’re fun action games with a satisfying puzzle element. And they’re now coming, some would say as fated, to the Switch via the Mighty Switch Force! Collection, which includes four games for $19.99. You get Mighty Switch Force!, Mighty Switch Force! 2, Mighty Switch Force! …read more
